Tom Green looks forward to Marco gig … and beach

Tom Green is living a dream that will bring him to the Off the Hook Comedy Club this week for five shows.
Stand-up comedy is a full-time pursuit for Green, who is in the midst of a world tour that began in January 2010.
Green is perhaps best known in the U.S. for his groundbreaking, self-named comedy shows on MTV during the late 1990s into the 2000s, his Web-based shows and for starring roles in such films as “Road Trip” and “Freddie Got Fingered.”
Today, he’s enjoying his time on the road, tickling the funny bones of live audiences with his unique brand of humor.
“It’s been great,” said Green. “I’ve been around the world twice now. I’m starting my third lap.”
This will be his second appearance at the Marco Island comedy club. Green has fond memories of his visit early last year.
“I had a great time there,” said Green. “I love Marco Island. I had some great shows. If anybody came then, they should definitely come back because I have new material. I’ve been writing a lot and I’ve gotten some great responses from audiences.
“I’m looking forward to getting back to Marco Island and doing some shows and hitting the beach.”
Green said fans of his MTV and Web shows have been flocking to his live appearances to relive familiar moments from his television shows, but they’re often unsure of what they’ll encounter from a live performance.
Current events, the news and personal experiences, all infused with Green’s slightly askew humor, are what Marco audiences can expect.
“I think people are getting a bit more than they expected,” said Green. “I like for people to be surprised when they come to see me on stage. People have been walking away having had a good time.
“I can’t really stop touring because it’s been so much fun.”
Green began performing stand-up at age 15 in clubs in his native Ontario, but never pursued it full time.
He hosted his own radio show while in college and even had a short career as a rapper (his handle was “MC Bones”), before starting “The Tom Green Show” on an Ottawa public access cable TV station in 1994.
