Off the Hook Comedy Club Official Press Release Regarding Faizon Love Termination

Date posted: September 19, 2011

Marco Island, FL – September 19, 2011 -Capt. Brien’s Seafood and Raw Bar and Off the Hook Comedy Club have been providing top notch comedians and entertainment to Southwest Florida for six and a half years.

Regrettably, Faizon Love was booked for six performances September 15-18, 2011.  Problems arose during the first few performances, specifically, Love was consistently tardy and displayed what can only be described as “drunken behavior” that had nothing to do with his act.  His behavior over the previous three days, along with his and his manager’s belligerence the evening of September 18th,  left Off The Hook Comedy Club with no other option than to terminate the Sunday night’s performance.

After arriving at the club forty minutes past his scheduled show start time, Love and his handlers demanded payment in cash, which was not within the contractual agreement. Unwilling to meet Love’s demands, but in an effort to compromise so as to provide our customers with the promised entertainment, we offered to pay Mr. Love a portion of his fee in cash and the remainder in the customary manner, via check.  Love refused to honor his contractual agreement and refused this effort to compromise this (form of) payment dispute, and refused to take the stage, resulting in his termination.  Thereafter, Mr. Love and his manager became extremely belligerent, and his threats of physical harm to our staff necessitated us contacting the Marco Island Police Department to have Mr. Love and his manager escorted off the premises.

Thereafter, Love began posting a fabricated story on Twitter alleging that the Club’s owner used a racial epithet, and to concoct an utterly false story of racism as the reason he refused to perform his show.  Mr. Love’s Twiiter postings are an audaciously calculated attempt to cover-up his grotesque lack of professionalism and actions that might be considered consistent with a substance abuse problem.  Moreover, his fabrication of being a victim of racism in this instance is an insult to the African Americans who have truly been victimized by racism and bigotry. Mr. Love’s slanderous Twitter postings are also an attempt to adversely affect the future business of Capt. Brien’s and Off the Hook Comedy Club.

Captain Brien’s and Off The Hook Comedy Club has, and will always continue to welcome the best comedians irrespective of their race, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation.  Being funny is the only requirement to perform at our venue!

We sincerely apologize to our customers who chose to spend their valuable time seeking entertainment at our venue, and hope this unfortunate incident will not prevent them from considering to join us for future shows.

Finally, and irrespective of what legally will transpire between the parties, as a member of the comedy club community, all of us at Capt. Brien’s Seafood and Raw Bar and Off the Hook Comedy Club sincerely hope Mr. Love will seek counseling and any substance abuse treatment he may require, and are genuinely concerned for his well-being.
